Community members sharing a warm meal together

Our Impact & Stories

Every Neighbor Has a Story

Real impact isn't measured in numbers alone — it's measured in neighbors served, volunteers welcomed, and stories told with care. This page grows as our community shares its story, always with permission.

Impact you can see every week

The Hope Center's impact happens quietly, week after week, through the hands of volunteers, partners, and staff. Here is where that work happens — with details staff have confirmed so far.

Food Pantry

Open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am–1pm, for Petersburg residents with valid ID. Led by Pantry Manager Sheron "Cookie" Bell, the pantry offers groceries with dignity and no judgment.

Resource Center

Free computer and internet access, printing, one-on-one guidance, and quiet study space — Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am–noon, with brief public reservations available.

Volunteer Hands

Neighbors serving neighbors across eight service areas — from the pantry and community meals to tutoring, maintenance, and administrative support.

Additional programs and service details will be added here as staff confirm them. We would rather show you less than tell you more than we know.

Draft — awaiting approval

Featured Story

Sheron "Cookie" Bell

Pantry Manager, DCU Hope Center

This story is a respectful working draft. Nothing below is published wording: Mrs. Bell's personal testimony will appear here only after she has reviewed it and given her permission. A photograph and video will be added once she approves them.

Approved photograph

Space reserved for an approved photograph of Cookie. No photo will be used without her consent.

In her own voice

Space reserved for a short video of Cookie telling her story, if and when she chooses to share one.

In her own words

Space reserved for Cookie's personal testimony — written or spoken in her own words, shared only with her permission.

We never invent quotes, dates, or outcomes. When the story is approved, it will appear here exactly as Cookie tells it.

Our community is full of stories worth telling — neighbors who found help here, volunteers who found purpose, partners who found a way to serve. Each story will be added only with the storyteller's permission, in their own words.

If you have a Hope Center story you'd be willing to share, we would be honored to hear it.
